9) What is holdover?

In a circuit with DC voltage, a phenomenon called holdover occurs when the discharge in the tube continues being driven by the current from the power supply even after the surge has subsided.
When holdover occurs like in a CRT's drive circuit the screen darkens and discharge in the absorber continues, which can lead to the glass tube melting, smoking, or burning.
